5 Steps to winterize your RV
If you live where it gets cold in the winter, chances are you need to winterize your RV to avoid expensive damage from the cold.
The attached video(below), courtesy of 'Camping with the Coles' does a great job of going thru 5 important steps to get your RV properly setup for winter storage.
1. Empty The RV (3:44) - Remove any food and other items that may attract rodents and other animals. Empty the fridge and cupboards.
2. Inspect and Repair (4:25) - Inspect and repair and issues with the rubber roof, caulking, walls, awning, vents and other areas. This process can save you many thousands in damage.
3. Clean the RV (6:23) - While not absolutely crucial, this step is a pretty important part of your overall maintenance program. Regularly cleaning the interior, exterior, roof and awning can really help preserve the value of your RV and it always gives you a good feeling when your RV is squeaky clean! Here's a great way to keep your RV clean
4. Prepare the plumbing system (8:31) This is by far, the most important step! This prevents damaged pipes and other damage from water freezing inside the plumbing system. You'll need some RV antifreeze and few minutes of time. In the video, Ben does a great job of showing you how to do this process yourself. Alternatively, RV dealers or Mobile Techs offer a fall service doing this.
5. Final staging at storage facility (20:03) - This a final step of small details to prevent problems from storage; using DampRid, Damp Traps or similar, setting fridge doors and other things.
